A digital transformation is taking place that is reshaping all aspects of life on a global scale through the convergence of components such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence, robotics, mobile technologies, and cloud computing. The smart cities approach, which aims to use all resources efficiently, build sustainable cities, and provide residents with a high quality of life, cannot be considered separately from this digital transformation. Through the adoption of a more proactive approach to urbanization and the recognition of the transformative potential of emerging technologies, local governments can accelerate their adaptation to these technologies through effective governance. 

Urban technologies, by drastically changing the operation of cities, will also determine the future of all humanity. As a relatively recent field, the process of defining the goals and understanding the potential of urban technologies is still ongoing. On the contrary, technology should be used as an effective tool to support public policies in achieving goals and to offer equal opportunities to all segments of society.

Smart city technologies used for services provided by local governments and the connections between virtual and physical infrastructure within the cities improve the service quality and also bring cities face to face with the potential risks of this digital transformation which are challenging to control. The development of cybersecurity, public order and safety, and cyberattack prevention systems is becoming increasingly necessary for smart cities to address threats such as data manipulation and signal jamming.

As the closest public institutions to the people, municipalities are responsible for equipping cities with technological infrastructure, as well as improving the living standards of citizens, together with the support of the private sector, by offering technology in a way that best serves the local population. Smart Cities Summit is a technology and local government-focused summit that brings together relevant public institutions, primarily municipalities, and private sector representatives with the aim of making technology more accessible to our citizens.
