Database On Marmara Municipalities’ Actions Against Covid-19 Released

Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU) has launched its open data portal, developed by its Urban Policy Center and Urban Technologies and Innovation Center. Within the framework of the portal, the first dataset on Marmara municipalities’ initiatives against Covid-19 has been published.

The dataset has been prepared as part of a research examining the earliest reflexes of local governments after the first Covid-19 case in Turkey was declared on 11 March 2020. The data on the municipal initiatives have been collected through scanning the official websites of the metropolitan, provincial and district municipalities in the cities within Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) Level 2. These cities are the followings:

  • Istanbul (TR10)
  • Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli (TR21)
  • Balıkesir, Çanakkale (TR22)
  • Bursa, Eskişehir, Bilecik (TR41)
  • Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Yalova (TR42)

The project focuses on the municipalities’ actions taken place between 11 March (declaration of the first Covid-19 case in Turkey) and 1 June 2020 (the beginning of the official normalization process).

The project’s outputs, namely the dataset as well as analysis reports which will be open for access in the coming days, aim to be useful tool for policy makers, local governments, practitioners and researchers in the studies on municipalities’ resilience against disasters, particularly health emergency situations.

The mentioned dataset (in Turkish) can be reached via the link: data.marmara.gov.tr/afet-yonetimi/covid-19
